10 Psychological Effects of Music

7. Singing brings people together

I’m not sure if this is the way to meet the love of your life, but the fact is that singing brings people together. And not only physically. Obviously one has to come together physically to make music together, for example in choirs or orchestras. But this activity can also bring us together relationally. In 2013, the Finnish researchers Eerola and Eerola investigated how high school students reacted to extensive music lessons and activities. Among other things, their findings show that the students attending these music lessons were more satisfied with almost all aspects of high school life. So not only the music lessons themselves, but also completely different subjects.

Singing requires synchronization with others, and this may be the pleasure factor of singing. We humans like to synchronize with others, and singing gives us the opportunity to do that.
